2010 MESSAGE FROM MAYOR

I trust everyone is having an enjoyable winter. 2009 was a very exciting and challenging year, with a number of significant accomplishments, such as the reconstruction of South Sparks Street and the installation of the new LED street lighting. Council has received a number of compliments with this initiative.

Ahmic Lake Road received considerable reconstruction last year with over 7 km of surface work completed and the balance within the draft 2010 Municipal Budget for a total of 9 km scheduled to be finished and topped with surface treatment. Our Roads Department also completed three extremely large culvert project replacements on Chapman Drive, Nipissing Road South and Barton Drive.

The Municipality also provided additional parking for the Village of Magnetawan with the construction of a new parking lot behind the LCBO outlet. The 2010 proposed budget also includes constructing a parking lot across from the Friendship Centre and Magnetawan Fire Hall.

The Municipality received conditional funding in 2009, through Infrastructure Stimulus from Federal and Provincial Governments to upgrade our Municipal Community Centre along with creating a new Public Works Garage to serve the needs of Magnetawan. The Magnetawan Public Library is planned to double in size through the Municipal Community Centre improvements as well in 2010.

As Council completes its final year of the term, I would like to thank you, on behalf of Council, for your support and opportunity to represent the taxpayers of the Municipality of Magnetawan.

Sincerely,

Richard (Dick) Smith, Mayor
