HORSEBACK RIDING
Horseback riding in the Magnetawan Area is a unique way to see nature up close. Experience a wonderful partnership between the animal and human world to help you get out and enjoy the wildflowers, trees and birds. There are two stables in our area to serve riders. Riverside Farm has a mixture of size and types of horses from the little Shetland pony for the kids up to the Appaloosas, Arab and Quarter horses for all levels of riders. Clear Lake Farm has exclusively Icelandic Horses. In addition to the three basic gaits: walk, trot and canter/gallop, the Icelandic Horse offers two more gaits, the tolt and the pace. The tolt is a remarkably smooth four beat gait, in which the horse moves its legs in the same way as when walking. It can be as slow as a walk and as fast as a gallop. The horse always has one foot on the ground. Both stables offer trail rides in the beautiful Magnetawan area on wooded trails or back roads. Try riding, we think you will want to do it again.
WHITE WATER CANOEING AND KAYAKING
The thrill of running rapids will open up a whole New World of adventure to you. Modern equipment and techniques have made learning easier and more fun that ever before. If rough water is what you are after. There are six sets of rapids on the Magnetawan River between Knoepfli Falls and Maple Island: Porter Rapids, Cody Rapids, Ross Rapids, Seller’s Rapids, Poverty Bay Chutes and Shadow Creek…all waiting for you to explore.
BOATING
The Magnetawan River is the longest navigable waterway north of Muskoka lake system. It is possible to boat from Burk’s Falls to Ahmic Harbour through more than 40 miles of lakes and rivers.
There are five lakes and numerous streams you can visit. Ahmic Lake is the largest, followed by Cecebe. Neighick (Beaver), Crawford and Midlothian. The river joins all these lakes. Plan a day to explore our rivers and lakes.
SWIMMING, SNORKELING AND SCUBA DIVING
Swimming can be found at numerous beaches along the river: Public or Private Beaches. The depth of the river makes exploring the bottom of the river exciting for the scuba diver or snorkeler.
Every scuba diver's dream is a sunken ship to explore. More than one steamboat sunk in the waters of the Magnetawan.
One of the magnificent steamboats that plied the Magnetawan River was the Wenonah. After 20 years of service she was drydocked and in 1906 was converted to a tug. The Wenonah was not fated to serve as a towboat very long. One afternoon during the summer of 1908, the old steamer, commanded by Captain Stephen Croswell of Ahmic Harbour, left the wharf at Midlothian for Magnetawan with an empty scow in tow. She did not get far before sparks from the fireboxes apparently ignited the cordwood being used for fuel, and soon flames were spreading around her stack. Unable to check the blaze, the crew took to the scow, and were soon picked up by local people who had seen what was happening. The engine, still functioning, took the burning vessel over to the foot of Echo Rock on the south side of Lake Cecebe. Here she finally filled and sank. The engine and boiler were later retrieved, but the bottom of the hull, containing the remains of the steel firebox, can still be seen to this day.

FISHING
Some of the best fishing can be found in the river, there are numerous varieties to catch: Small Mouth Bass, Bass, Pike, Perch, Walleye, Catfish, Smelt, Speckle Trout and many more.
In the winter our lakes abound with ice fishing huts. These homes away from homes dot the landscape and provide a refuge from the cold winter air. Huts are available for rent at many locations across the district. Come catch one of our many varieties of fish and take home an enjoyable meal as well. Be looking for you next time I am out fishing.
The Province of Ontario, in partnership with many non-government organizations like the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, declares one summer weekend (Friday, July 8 through Sunday, July 10, 2005) a licence free fishing weekend.
GOLF
In our area we have one of the finest golf courses in the Almaquin Area. Challenging nine hole course overlooking the mouth of beautiful Ahmic Lake. The golf course is seasonal. They have a snack bar, licensed patio, pro shop, driving range and
lunches are available.
SNOWSHOEING, CROSS COUNTRY SKIING, HIKING AND MOUNTAIN BIKING
TRANS CANADA TRAIL
The Trans Canada Trail winds its way through the area; the Sequin Trail from Fern Glen to Sequin Falls, and the Old Nipissing Road north to Magnetawan and beyond, are now part of the Trans Canada Trail. The Old Nipissing Development Road (originally built in 1840’s) is now the main street of the Village of Magnetawan. It originally ran from Rosseau to Nipissing and was the only route by road to the north. It has since fallen into disuse. However, there are many ghost towns, old cemeteries, and abandoned farms to see. Many of the original settlers came this way before the railways were built. Route signs along this road lead from Sequin Trail at Sequin Falls to Commanda at Highway 522. This road is excellent trail for hiking or mountain biking. We have six area trails, some are private but accessible to the public with just a phone call. These trails wind through some of the most magnifcent country that can be found in Ontario. See wildlife: Deer, Moose, Squirrels, Beaver, Muskrat, Bear, Rabbits, Song Birds, Ducks, Geese, Loons and many more too numerous to mention. There are wildflower and trees. HUNTING
For the hunter among you, we have some of the best resources available anywhere in Ontario. Numerous seasons make any hunting expedition an adventure. Whether you hunt with a camera or a gun, we can guarantee that you will enjoy nature at its finest.
Dog Sledding
For a different outing, try dog sledding. One of our resort offers dog sledding tours, part or all day. Tours some of our fine trails and experience one of the most exhilarating thrills of our life.
Tobogganing
Nothing in the world is more exciting than seeing your children have fun in the snow. Our winters are picturesque as well as fun. Children will love tobogganing in the snow or even making a snowman.
Ice Skating and Hockey
The Lions Club Pavilion situated by the Community Centre Building offers free public skating and ice hockey when the need arises. Come see your children, as they whirl around the ice and have a wonderful time while getting some much needed exercise. In the summer the pavilion is used to play basketball or tennis and can be rented for numerous activities including wedding receptions and social events.

Ridge Runner Snowmobile Club Trails
Over 150 km of excellent groomed OFSC trails fan out
from Magnetawan in all directions joining with the main OFSC trail network. It
is through the dedicated effort of the many men and women who volunteered their
time, effort and financial support that the Magnetawan Ridge Runners have built,
maintained, groomed and continue to improve the now 153 km of snowmobile trails.
