Message from the Board
We wish to extend a warm welcome to all those attending the Magnetawan Fall Fair. The Magnetawan Fall Fair is a deeply rooted and integral part of our community. This yearly event draws members of our community and surrounding area, who come together to experience what has become a lasting tradition over the past 128 years.
The history of Agricultural Fairs in Canada date back to very early times. These fairs were a means to spreading new ideas in Animal husbandry, improving livestock, an opportunity to introduce the machines that were gradually beginning to appear and to offer honest competition as they still do today. There were flower shows, seed competitions, vegetable displays and exhibits of spinning, weaving, shawls, blankets, knitting and sewing. One of the most popular was Domestic Science: cooking, baking, preserving, canning butter and cheese making. This is where the lasies showed with pride their homemaking skills, always hoping to be a prize winner.
In 2005, the Magnetawan Fall Fair celebrates it's 128th anniversary with our From Tomorrow to Today theme. While we have seen so many changes over time, the commitment and dedication of our exhibitors and organizers is strong today as it was in 1877.
We hope that you like the set up of our new Fair Book. It now covers a period of 4 years, being 2005,2006,2007 & 2008. A great deal of time and thought has gone into producing this prize list and it is our hope that you find some new and interest changes that appeal to you our exhibitors.
We would like to take this time to say a very big THANK YOU to our sponsors of
this years book.
We would also like to thank all our volunteers and organizers who give countless
hours of hard work
and the strong support from the community that we have received.
The Magnetawan Fall Fair is great for all ages and offers each of us young or
old, the opportunity
to better understand the role agriculture plays in our lives. So come, celebrate
our pioneering spirit
with us and we'll see you at the fair!!!!
